How to “Handle the National Pallet shortages

If you’re someone who is feeling the effects of the current pallet shortage, don’t feel like you’re alone. Because of the pandemic and the like, a lot of companies are dealing with this problem. Lots of companies are struggling to get the items that they need for proper business running. This is something that a lot of businesses struggle with, as they need the products to transport, secure and properly store. What’s the reason behind this? How can companies properly manage this? What can you do to ensure that you’re constantly on top of the pallet game? Read on to find out.

What it IS

Basically, this is the problem that a lot of companies have at the moment, where they can’t secure the items that they have in order to store and transport, since they don’t have the pallets that they need to ensure that they can do the business.

They’re looking for new vendors, and a lot of them are struggling to keep core customers in place already. The cause of this is due to many things. While covid is a major player in this, it’s not the only issue. There are other issues related to pallets that are coming forth too., and they include the following:

  • The companies are rationing supplies

  • Lumber shortages

  • They inventory for pallets is increasing

  • Gas prices

  • Labor shortages

  • No trucks

  • The dwell time for inventory increasing

  • Shipping container issues

  • The shortages of resin

  • This Is definitely something that’s becoming a major problem for many, and there are a few ways people are looking to fix this.

How to Navigate

There is a lot that’s happening right now at the present moment, and you may feel like there is nothing that you can do. However, you definitely want to make sure that you understand that there are a few solutions that are there. The first, is to find better vendors, and properly source them. the right company will have the pallets that you need. Renting out pallets is another option. This is great for those who aren’t interested in buying for the long term and can pay for a rental.

If you’re able to find pallets, you should try to buy them recycled, or remanufactured. These are all still valid pallets, as they still have the same form as before. Some companies are also considering the option of buying new pallets.  New pallets are being created, but they do carry with it the costs. Then of course, there is finding your own pallets through the networking that you do. If you have a strong network of people, asking them for pallets can be a viable solution.

Finally, you want to make sure that you understand what’s called the “ABCs” of pallets. You have A pallets, B pallets, and C pallets respectively. The A pallets are brand new so they look like they are, but they’re made from a softwood that’s used practically no energy. These are the strongest and the most robust, and they’re the most expensive. B pallets aren’t totally new, but they’re not old, they’re basically in good condition and have some use, but they tend to be cheaper, and are a good option for handling loads.

Then there are C pallets, which have been through the ringer. They may be okay or look totally terrible. Some may be unusable, but you may get lucky. You can use these tips to navigate, and hopefully when you’re able to utilize the pallets that you need, you can ship more items.

Tips For Great Food Packaging Design

The primary function of food packaging is to protect food items during transit and storage. Food packaging, on the other hand, aims at attracting customers. It means that food packaging helps you sell your food products. It helps you build a strong brand identity that conveys information about your product and brand in a way that is relevant to your target audience. Remember, your product packaging is your brand ambassador that brings the retail buyer closer to your brand.

Know your brand identity

Whether through a screen or walking through grocery store aisles, your product packaging is the first point of contact between your brand and consumers. That is why you have to ensure that the packaging of your product makes a clear statement about who you are as a company and what improvements your products tend to bring to your consumers’ lives.

First and foremost, you will have to look at your product. See how it is different from other products available in the market. Also, look at who your primary customer is. Be sure about your company’s philosophy. Answering these questions will allow you to make sure that your food packaging design forms a logical connection with your brand identity. It will guide you to use the right color, shape, and materials.

Form and function

The job of a food packaging designer is to balance the shelf appeal. When it comes to the package’s functionality, you have to make sure that your product arrives in the very same condition it was at the time of leaving your warehouse. If the product is damaged, grocery retailers will send you an invoice or deduct money.

Another crucial responsibility of a food package is to convey the features and benefits of the product in a way easily understandable. Remember, you only have a few seconds to get the customer’s attention, so make sure that your product packaging stands out from the competition.

Materials and design

You will have to pay attention to product packaging when launching your product. You should be ready to embrace a surge in costs at this step. The key is to be flexible and work on alternative options when necessary without sacrificing the appeal and functionality of the package.

Here are some cost drivers for food packaging.

  • When packaging food products, you have to choose from aluminum, plastic, glass, and paperboard, all of which are the traditional packaging materials. While choosing any packaging material, make sure to analyze its impact on the environment. Fortunately, we are living in an age where the demand for sustainable packaging supplies has risen significantly. As a result, production units are producing high-quality sustainable and eco-friendly packaging materials to meet market requirements. However, be sure to discuss your requirements with a packaging vendor before implementing any solution.
  • The development process and setting specifications embed 80% of costs. It means that 20% will occur during manufacturing. It means that if you want to save costs, you will have to optimize the design and development phase.
  • While it is possible to make trade-offs during production, printing, and managing labor, make sure that you understand the implications of those trade-offs.

A successful food packaging process depends entirely on the choices you make. That is why it is necessary to make the right choices.

The Demand Behind Microwavable Packaging

Microwavable food and its packaging has bee a staple for decades as an easy and hot meal option.   The options have further expanded in recent years to dairy, the deli, and other shelf-stable types of items, all because of the new technology for packaging. With a growing selection of microwavable elements in this part of the market, along with the market shift, we’ve seen a 6% growth in microwavable foods on this market.

Here, we’ll focus on the offerings of this, whether it’s enters that are microwavable, and easily heated sides. Many food producers do seek to put together a new opportunity for growth, and big decisions for food packaging items.   Here, we’ll also look at the best ways to promote this and dig deep into this ever-growing market.

About the Market

This is a market that’s huge, worth $120 billion.  It is projected for a double increase of its growth, reaching $230 billion by 2031. This comprises the frozen and reheated, shelf-stable, and refrigerated foods that are easy to reheat.   All of these have grown a lot, with the frozen part leading the field in this.

However, for many new people these packaging options, especially grab and go, are starting to push for huge growth. This is especially true of the heat and eat segments too.

For instance, Bob Evand discovered that over 75% of the responders to a survey do want to purchase heat and eat foods that are easily refrigerated, and this is something that people are getting more interested in. This is especially true of different breakfast items that are there too, especially before the pandemic was a thing. Some want both lunch and dinner options for these food, showing that these customers do want fast, convenient meals during cooking at home.

The elements of This packaging

If you’re going to be using microwavable packaging, you have to consider all of the elements that go into it.   we’ll discuss that here:

  • Materials: you want a material that’s safe for the microwave, and also can hold up well. high-density polyethylene for instance, is a safe, microwavable one.  PET and polystyrene should be avoided

  • You want sustainability that’s recyclable.  Plastic #2 and #5 are sustainable, but they are a bit expensive and harder to recycle, so it might not be worth it.

  • Lidding is another.   You want something that’s either a film seal, or polypropylene to be resealed. If you know there will be leftovers, then do the latter

  • Make sure you have tamper-evident packaging, as this ensures locks and safety on the packaging for a better shelf-life./

  • Size is the last one.  You want to give them the right portions for their needs, and also will be enough either for single=-meal or multiple meals. Some people may choose the single-meal elements because they are easier on costs.

What to Look for with vendors.

You want to make sure that you make the right choices with microwavable packaging. Here we will give you three things to watch for when choosing microwavable packaging:

  • Easy to seal you want a packaging design that’s efficient, and very easy to seal with lidding films.

  • A longer shelf-life that’s got a higher oxygen barrier to extend this shelf life of these foods.

  • A lot of options, such as a range of different shapes, sizes, and the like, in order to maintain control and package these items well

Get this and try to find the right types of packaging for your needs.   See for yourself exactly the right types of element you want.

The most Important Box Packaging Mistakes to Avoid

Looking to take your packaging to the next level? Choosing the right box design matters, but there are a few things that you need to avoid, in order to prevent possible issues with branding differentiation. Now sure what they are? Here are some of the most common mistakes people make when they’re designing boxes!

Neglecting the brand consistency

Your packaging and branding is a representation of the identity of the brand. One of the biggest things is to craft packaging that won’t’ align with the aesthetic. Consistency does go across all of these touch points, from the logo that you have to the color palette that’s there to even imagery and typography, reinforcing the branding to make this recognizable. Make sure that you have a consistently recognized and know what it is before making packaging

Ignoring Practicality

While aesthetics matter, the practicality needs to not be compromised.

Overly intricate, complex designs do look good at first, but if it’s hard to open up, put together, heck even use this, a lot of customers get upset.

The user experience is ideal for great packaging, and it’s vital from the assembly to even intuitive usage and secure closures. Packaging needs to not only look great but function great.

For instance, boxes that are big and deep can be used to house the toy that’s in there. Sometimes they also work as hangers or even desk organizers.  This is good for providing a popular way to repurpose packaging with your customers.

Failing to prioritize the Material Quality

Packaging is a tactile sort of experience. When materials are bad, it diminishes the product’s value. opt for something that’s strong enough to house the item. If it’s too flimsy, it can impact the product's strength and the trust of customers. High-quality materials also include those that are durable.

Rigid boxes and cardboard are aesthetically pleasing and great for people to use, based on the branding and products.

Ignoring sustainability

If you ignore your eco friendly activities, it shows that you don’t care about the planet to customers.

Incorporating sustainable items to minimize the waste and explore different reusability and recyclability options is great for brands. Ti also does align with the societal push towards more responsible consumption of items.

Boxes are sustainable as they are made from kraft paper and cardboard that’s recyclable, biodegradable, and even can incorporate other plant-based items such as plastics and ink.

Ignoring the clarity and Hierarchy

If you don’t really pay attention to the box packaging, it can misalign people. You want to make sure that the critical parts of your packaging such as the name of the product, the features, and the benefits in more obscure spots can impact the customer’s overall opinion on the brand. If it's hard to read, that drives them away.

Establish a good design hierarchy, to ensure that essential information is always visible, and even comprehensible, even at a first glance.

Misjudging Audiences

If you have a target audience, you need to focus your packaging on this.

Packaging that does appeal to younger people will not always connect with older audiences.

If you have an audience of older people, incorporating youthful and immature packaging will drive them away.

The best way to prevent this one is to do market research and look at the preferences of the target audiences, the values, and the aesthetics. Form the tailor these designs so that they speak to people.

Avoid these mistakes, and you’ll have some high-quality packaging that works great for people and can really enhance the experience.

The Benefits of Multi-Carrier Shipping

For a lot of companies, they’ll just use one carrier and then call it a day. One carrier is good for simplifying, but multiple carriers are the way for you to go.  Why is this important? Well, here are a few reasons for using multi-carrier shipping for you to use and benefit from.

Provides immunity

Carriers do get overloaded for a variety of different reasons.  Holidays, back to school, and the like can make it a nightmare. While a warehouse benefits by relying on one carrier for simplifying, immunity is better with multiple carriers. That’s because when you’ve got multiple carriers, it prevents slowdown in the event of a shutdown, or on strike.

For instance, when UPS faced a strike, the strike threatened almost 19 million different shipments and deliveries a day.  You don’t want this to happen, as this can ruin the revenue of a business.

This is also good too in the event of outages. Multiple carriers improves the shipping process, and helps you continue to run your business despite the major changes.

More Choices

There is far more flexibility with multiple carriers. Like with deliveries that are trying to rely on multiple companies, if you have issues with one, you risk losing the product.  You want to also look for the best method of shipping, which you don’t get with one carrier.

Some logistics coordinators might have a hard time choosing the best shipping for parcels if there is one carrier. There is also a larger risk of the carrier missing delivery dates, and they might not offer shipping discounts.

A lot of warehouse managers do limit this, but the thing is, it also limits the shipping software that’s used. This is due to the fact that a lot of carriers offer different times for transit, different networks, and also different methods to ship these packages. This might not align with the needs of a business in a lot of different cases.

When you’ve got multiple carries, you’ve got different zone maps that offer better flexibility. This also offers better shipping software to meet the goals of the delivery, and different carriers based on the needs of the business.

Package Diversification

There is also a chance for you to diversify these options. This is because not every network is created equal. Some of these work better in certain parts of the US, whereas in others, it’s not very good.

This is why it’s good to have more than one option.

It also gives warehouses a chance to streamline deliveries, scale all of this as well based on the changes seasonally. Some warehouses can also alternate, choosing different carriers to offer a more cost-effective and better solution during newer product drops. This is also good when there is a lot of demand. This can help a lot of businesses save a bunch of money and time. It also sets brands apart with more streamlined shipping, and even methods of delivery.

When you’re choosing the correct strategy for shipping, you’ve got to look at different shipping types and even networks to determine the ideal one for operations. Whether it’s immunity for more different options, there are a lot of benefits that warehouses are able to leverage when they use multiple carriers for shipping. When you consider these benefits, you’ll be able to determine the multi carrier shipping options. This improves the strategies for a lot of businesses, and also enhances the productivity of a lot of companies in a lot of different ways, enhancing their ability to do so much more as well when they’re selling.

We use five simple steps to help you get the right foam packaging.

  1. First we design this packaging around the product specs. You tell us how much protection you need, and create a general design, and then run it by you.

  2. Next we create the prototype that will help with testing. This prototype will be what we base the entire packaging limit around, so if this is good, this will be what we bae it off of.

  3. We use third party types of testing that include vibration, shock, compression, even drop testing. Throughout each, we make sure that they meet the requirements for protection, in order to fit your needs.   These tests are extensive, and based on what you need as well.

  4. We get the test results back and validate them based on a third-party laboratory. We also do some of this in house too, in order to make this faster.

  5. Once we get the results back, we either re-run and fix the packaging, or if there’s a chance that it’s good enough, we run it by you, for the overall approval.

We don’t make any further steps until you’ve approved the design that’s there.   from there however, we produce that packaging directly in house, based on the specifications that are used.

You’ll then just have to package and ship out the items.   We take it from there and provide the best packaging solutions that optimize the use of foam.

Cleaning the Oceans through Packaging

It’s something that a lot of businesses have started to become mindful of. With more and more plastic, along with other materials used for packaging ending up in the oceans throughout the world, and more documentaries coming out about the state of things, we’re more concerned than ever before about how we can improve the state of the planet so that we’re not polluting it any further.

Packaging especially is becoming more informed on this, and there are more efforts to be sustainable in order to appeal to others. Food and beverage industries especially are taking it upon themselves to be more mindful of this. But what can you do to help the planet with your packaging? Here are a few things to check out.

Make Recycling Count!

You want to make sure that you push for recycling whenever you can. Try to make the packaging as recyclable as possible. Sure, cardboard boxes are good to recycle, but what about the inner parts? Paper filler is good to make this recyclable, and if the paper does get thrown out, don’t worry, they do degrade over time.

You can also add fabric fibers that are man-made and even wool too. This is good for offering a great way to create a nice presentation too.

For items that are rustic, you can use fabrics, since this makes it look better, but also, you’re helping the planet with the packaging options.

If you plan to utilize any sorts of packaging, try to make it corn-based or other dissolvable sorts of plastics, as this is better than just using regular old plastic and having that float around within our oceans.

Strive for Less

Strive to have less in terms of the packaging.  Try to as well just create less waste as well with the packaging that you have. minimal packaging and minimalism is a great way to ensure that there is far less waste.  Also, when you have less packaging, it lowers your overall costs, for both the packaging, and the transport along with manufacturing of these materials. This will save you some money, while also helping out the planet.

Another way to also have less, is to shred things. Shred boxes, paper, anything that can go through there. This is good for recycling and getting rid of things.

Another cool thing about this, is provided that the paper doesn't have anything sensitive on it, you can of course, shred it, and then use this in a box in order to package things.

Stop over Wrapping

You should stop overwrapping things.  You probably don’t really think about this, but the thing is, it can play a huge part in the way things work.

Think about it, what type of impression does sending bulky boxes all the time for small things give the customer? The simple one is that it’s wasteful and looks bad. Plus, they’re going to be thrown away regardless.

Rather than shipping out large things within smaller things, try to stack the smaller things, then use stretch wrapping to fit things. This is something that a lot of people may think is more wasteful, but the thing is, using plastic stretch wrapping rather than large boxes offers more protection, and also, it’s not just throwing out boxes.

This also protects the product from breaking over time too, and you don’t have to worry about it getting tossed into the landfill.

The best way to protect your packaging, and offer the best packaging for your needs is to look at the business, what you’re doing, and also, anything that will fix the current overpackaging.

Trends in Custom Cardboard boxes

Custom boxes are now more popular than ever before and they’ve revolutionized business packaging and the products within. They’re practical, easy on the wallet, and are eco-friendly for delivering various items that might be fragile. They’re also a wonderful opportunity for marketing and branding, especially for companies that have no storefront other than on the screen. Here, we’ll go over the hottest cardboard boxes trends, and various things that have recently gained major traction for companies.

Being Eco Friendly

The first trend that you’ve got to look at is being eco friendly. This is a trend that’s great for a lot of businesses, and boxes just manage to do that. With growing awareness of various ecological problems coming up, the world wants more sustainability. Customers are now more aware than before when it comes to various materials in the products that they get. This also is where packaging comes into this.  It's something that a lot of people also know, and even the fashion world is using this.  The eschewing of various plastics, and other options that aren’t degradable is also popular.

Part of the reason why people love cardboard boxes is because they use sources that are sustainable.

Personalize It

In our digital world, people want a unique experience that’s tailored to them.

Personal touches such as a custom design, message, or even names of customers on boxes are what create memorable, personalized unboxing experiences for the customers, and also secures repeated customs.

Even packages that aren’t usually personal have started to embrace this.

Many companies have taken it to their boxes to get personal. You can craft tailor-made boxes to your experience, and even various puzzles and the like that’ll be accessed with smartphones. This engages the user, but also heightens the excitement and the anticipation. It also creates a unique buzz as well around companies if you use this.

Make it Eye Catching.

Another trend in the boxing world is eye-catching graphics. Colors that are vibrant and shapes that are geometric are important in the branded boxes world.

Did you know that over 70% of customers would buy a box that’s appealing visually, and is eye-catching? With a lot of people looking for this type of packaging, one trend in boxes that’s getting all sorts of attention is looking visually appealing.

It stands out and grabs a customer’s attention to convey the identity of the brand.

One reason for graphics is because of psychology.  It’s a visual stimulus that’s conscious of doing and not just the shipping choices that have to do with packaging. Colors, shapes, and the like affect our imaginations, evokes memories, and arouses plenty of feelings. It furthermore of course, impacts the wallets too.

When businesses hardness this, it really helps with hitting on the packaging needs for products.

Get minimal

Minimalism is in.  while you may think eye-catching is being in your face, but not really. Shapes that are simple, such as organic forms of such, are very popular. Less does mean more in a lot of cases.

Nature

Nature does a lot for one’s well-being. With the desire of customers to shop at more eco friendly places, it is the best branding chance.

Incorporating nature into one’s design fosters peacefulness, organic shapes, and natural parts. Consumers also like the associations that a business has.

It’s calming, and with nature, you’re also getting the benefits. It does lower one’s blood pressure and reduces stress and strains. Harness it, along with these other unique trends, and you will succeed.

These trends are what matter, so make sure to use them.
